I spent the first half of this week in Indiana with Tuttorosso Tomatoes, exploring the fields where the tomatoes are grown and later the cannery where they essentially prepare all tomatoes for shipment directly to my home. You already know I swear by these tomatoes and this trip only affirmed to me that their quality is first-rate.

Speaking of tomatoes, on the Sunday before I left for Indiana, I spoke on a panel at the Brooklyn Book Festival with my friends Julia Turshen, Helen Rosner, and Pierre Thiam, and I just about cried talking about PJ’s meatballs and sauce from Eating in the Middle. I think the question that was asked was something along the lines of, “How does it feel when someone makes a recipe of yours?” Julia, Pierre, and I agreed that it’s the most wonderful and wild thing, and I added that when someone makes a recipe of mine that has a real history, or a whole lot of meaning to me, it’s the loveliest thing, so special. PJ’s meatballs, and his signature sweet sauce, are the most deep-rooted, years-old, makes-me-cry-just-to-think-about-them recipe in my cookbook, and when I hear that someone has made them, I feel like they’re bringing a part of my family into their home. Makes me weepy.

Now I’m home, happy the weekend is here. Oh, and I just signed up for Rent the Runway. I’ll let you know what happens. Have you tried it?
