I hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend! I know it\u2019s not the typical celebration with big gatherings and beach days, but we can still try to enjoy the summer. Our family celebrated The Fourth with just the three (and a half) of us at home. We went for a family walk in our red, white, and blue gear (I borrowed a US soccer shirt from Daniel since I don\u2019t have any maternity clothes that are particularly patriotic). We visited the chickens in our neighborhood and fed them some cherries (with our neighbors permission). Then we played in a giant elephant inflatable sprinkler we got as a gift. James absolutely loves water so he had a blast even though the elephant lost quite a bit of air while we played and so he kind of looked like he was lying down at the end :) . We enjoyed grilled hamburgers and hotdogs and now Daniel and I are planning on watching Hamilton<\/em>. I can’t wait. It was a really pleasant day even without traveling or getting together with friends and family. I hope everyone had a safe and fun summer holiday. This week Daniel and I watched a couple of new shows: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We checked out \u201cPerry Mason\u201d because we love Matthew Rhys from The Americans. The show looks good with the costumes and period details but neither of us were really drawn into the story. It wasn\u2019t bad, it just wasn\u2019t as attention-grabbing as I hoped. I don\u2019t think we’ll be continuing with this one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also watched \u201cI\u2019ll be Gone in the Dark,\u201d a docuseries on HBO about The Golden State Killer and the late true crime writer, Michelle McNamara, who became obsessed while writing her book about him. Daniel thought it was really interesting but since I read the book, I didn’t find it quite<\/em> as captivating. We’ll keep watching. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have had a lot of experience with telemedicine during this pandemic. Most of my prenatal appointments have been conducted over the phone. The New Yorker published an excellent piece on the benefits and pitfalls<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lately we have realized how critical essential workers are, especially at places like grocery stores, drug stores, utilities, and transportation. Many of these workers are underpaid and underappreciated. In fact, many essential workers were earning less than people on unemployment over the past few months. I hope they will be compensated with some kind of hazard pay<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I feel fortunate that we didn\u2019t have to worry about homeschooling with James because he is too young. I know parents, students, and educators have had a really difficult time with online learning<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
