Pain Au Lait Breakfast Rolls

I used to buy pain au lait rolls in the grocery store, but I always knew that they are packed with harmful preservatives. I don’t like to feed my kid with processed food, so I invented this recipe for Pain Au Lait Breakfast Rolls.

And you know what? They actually taste way better than the ones from the store!

Breakfast rolls ready to bake on a baking tray

These slightly sweet, brioche-like rolls are so good, that we ate the whole batch for breakfast.

However it takes time to make them, they are so worth it! Just wake up a little bit earlier and your family will be grateful for the yummiest breakfast ever!

How to Make Pain Au Lait Breakfast Rolls

Pour milk into a saucepan and add butter. Cook on low heat until the butter melts. Set aside to cool it down (it should be lukewarm, but not hot).

Mix the flour with yeast, sugar and salt. Slowly pour milk with butter, and begin to knead the dough with a mixer. Add the eggs and continue kneading the dough. After 5 minutes, it will have the form of a ball.

Leave the dough in a bowl and cover it with a cloth. Leave in a warm place for an hour.

After doubling the volume, divide the dough into 8 portions. Flatten each ball and form the rolls.

Place the rolls on the baking tray lined with parchment paper. Cover them with a cloth and leave for 45 minutes. During this time, it should double in volume.

Cut the three lines on each roll with a sharp knife. Mix the beaten egg with a teaspoon of milk and grease the top of the rolls. Bake at 360 F for 15 minutes until lightly browned. Cool on the rack before serving.
